Whacha Readin'?

This is one of the things that Alex really gets on me about. He wants me to read more books. I could spend hours upon hours reading anything on my computer screen, but I'm so bad about cracking a book! Anyone that knows me, knows that I'm a total TV person, and one of the worst kind. I'm a reality TV person!! I know it's horrible but I've owned up to it and accepted it, it's who I am. That is why I had to have a post dedicated to the two books I'm currently 'reading'. I use the term 'reading' very very loosely since these books have a picture on every page. But hey, it's a start!

The first book is called The New Earth From Above: 365 Days. I got this book as a birthday gift from my friends Henry and Xochilt. ..:Thanks Again Guys:.. The cool thing about this book is that it has an aerial photo each day of the year and a nice write up about it on the opposite page. Very educational, minimal reading, great pictures..I love it!

I had to post this since it was so random. It's May 6th in the book and it's an aerial of Ocoa Bay, Dominican Republic. This is very close to the small town of San Jose de Ocoa which is where yours truly was born, raised and lived until I was 8. The write up talks about the salt harvesting in the area.

The second book I'm 'reading' is 501 Must-Visit Destinations. Alex and I LOVE to travel (who doesn't?) and we try to do it as much as we can. I picked up this little book in the bargain bin at my local Borders for a reasonable $10. I honestly sat and went through each page and counted 14 destinations that Alex and I have been to in the book. Only 487 more to go!

The book being opened up to the Prague page was not a coincidence. I miss you Alex!

Like A Proud Mama!

The bad news: Alex is away on business for 2 weeks.
The worse news: He comes back March 8th. Our one year wedding anniversary is March 3rd. You do the math.
The GREAT news: He's in Prague!

As sad as I was when I found out that we wouldn't be spending our one year wedding anniversary together, I was twice as excited for him to have this opportunity to travel to Czech Republic, even if it is on business. What can I say..I'm a cool wife, that's just how I roll.

I was even happier when he expressed interest in wanting to pick my brain and learn what I know about photography. I was so stoked! So I started telling him everything I know about ISO, shutter speed, aperture..how they work together..blah blah blah. So I learned that I'm not a great teacher but he did a good job of piecing together my choppy information and making ends meet. I dropped him off at the airport yesterday afternoon. He arrived in Prague at 3am Tampa time, 9am Prague time, rested up a little bit, grabbed a bite, and at around 5pm Prague time he headed out to get lost in the city. No agenda, just walked around to see what he could stumble upon. Of course, he left with camera in hand and newly acquired skills.

He came back to the hotel and Skyped me. He told me about walking around the city, how beautiful it was, how it still hasn't sunk in that he's on the other side of the world. The best thing he told me though was:

"Now I see why you get home after taking pictures and you are so excited about uploading and editing."

He's so happy with how his pictures are turning out and this is only his first time shotting fully in manual mode! He has 2 full weeks to take in the beautiful scenery and get better and better! This makes me happy to no end. Not only is he enjoying himself, but hopefully he will get so hooked that he will totally understand why my lens and equipment wish list is growing by the day!

Without further adieu..here are some shots taken by my hubby Alex of his first day in Prague.

This picture has a funny little story. When I saw it, I asked him if he used a tripod. He said "Nope, I used my iron lungs, it really is a perk." He's addicted to Call of Duty!

When he returns, I'm making it a point to have a Best Of blog entry with his best pictures of Prague!

1...2...3 into da 'Fo

I saw this on another blog and found it HILARIOUS! Gizoogle.com translates any site into Snoop-dizzle talk. Click HERE to check out my blog Gizoogled. You have to try this on other sites! CNN.com is one of my personal favorites!

(I hope no one is offended by the link, it's all in good fun)

RSS Me

This is a cool little tool that I've found myself depending on a lot lately. If you have a handful of favorite blogs or websites that are updated frequently, this will keep you sane! Instead of checking each blog or site one by one for new posts, add it to your RSS feeds. This will create an alphabetized list of your sites and when one is updated, it will appear in bold on the list. I just typed RSS into Wikipedia.com and found that it stands for Really Simple Syndication! That's right up my alley! Like I mentioned, this will keep you sane like it has kept me, being that I'm now an official blog stalker to about a gazillion sites. Here are some screenshots to facilitate (I'm running Internet Explorer 7...if you're not..then what are you waiting for!??!)

Step 1:

Step 2:

It really is THAT easy! Go ahead...RSS me...I would love my own personal blog stalker!

Your Daily Dose...

of Hotness! I didn't want to show all my cards so I tucked some pictures away to post after Kym and Jonas saw all the pictures from their shoot. I was chomping at the bits wanting to post the first two pictures. All I can say is that they are on fire!

Do you see the heart their arms make in the shadow? I would love to say I planned that, but I didn't. I told them to hold hands, snapped the shot, and didn't notice until I was back home editing. I'll take it though!

If you know Kym and Jonas you would probably agree that this picture sums them up pretty well. Kym doing something silly and Jonas laughing WITH her.

Retraction..

I spoke too soon about not having steamy pictures of Kym and Jonas!

I tried something different with this picture. I washed out the color to almost black and white and added a grainy texture to it.

Kym and Jonas

I love it when a plan comes together! In my endless pursuit of finding victims to shoot...with my camera that is, Kym and Jonas allowed me to practice. The weather was beautiful and Kym and Jonas were model subjects. They were up for anything! Too bad the water was freezing or I would have some steamy, wet pictures to share. Thank you so much guys, I hope you like them...because I LOVE them. And we will be cashing in our Senor Loco's rain check soon! I have alot of editing to do still but as promised..here's a sneak.

I know I say this pretty often but this is my new favorite picture! Or should I say pictures. I *heart* Photoshop!

Look What You Did Keith!!!

I took it upon myself to take up a do-it yourself project. The mission: a ringlight, which mainly required plywood cutting by a jigsaw and wiring the lighting. The problem: I don't own a jigsaw and I'm scared to use one, and I know nothing about wiring. Are you following me here? The project wasn't going too well. So, in steps Keith, aka Mr. Handy for the purposes of this post. I messaged Mr. Handy hoping that he had a jigsaw and could assist in order to help me achieve this project. Not only did Mr. Handy have a jigsaw, but he offered to "help" (meaning do all the work) with the wiring!

Thank you sooo much Keith for all your help..I owe you big time! Here are some test shots, straight out of the camera (except for the black and white conversion), using my new favorite toy. I'll post pictures of the finished product later. Notice the ring in the eyes and 360 degree illumination. The only test subjects I had at 2AM where...well myself and my husband!

The many faces of Alex..and yet I still love him.
